Borussia Dortmund, a German side, announced last week that they had reached an agreement with Real Madrid for the transfer of 19-year-old Jude Bellingham. On Wednesday, Real Madrid officially confirmed the signing of the English international on a six-year contract, with the deal reportedly costing over 100 million euros ($108 million).
Real Madrid also revealed that Bellingham’s presentation ceremony as a new player would take place the following day at 12:00 noon at Real Madrid City. The player would then address the media afterwards.
The agreement between Dortmund and Madrid involved a transfer fee of 103 million euros, with the potential for an additional 30 per cent of that amount in bonuses.
Bellingham’s arrival at Real Madrid contributes to the club’s midfield overhaul, along with the young French duo of Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni. This transition aims to gradually phase out veteran midfielders Luka Modric and Toni Kroos.
In their statement, Real Madrid expressed their fortune in securing one of the most promising talents in the world of football. They highlighted Bellingham’s recognition as the best player in the Bundesliga for the 2022-23 season and emphasized that, at just 19 years old, he is already a starter for the England national team.
Real Madrid stated, “Our club has signed one of the biggest talents in world football, a player who comes from Borussia Dortmund and joins Madrid after being selected as the best player in the Bundesliga for the 2022-23 season. Furthermore, he is only 19 and has already established himself as a starter for the England national team.”
Bellingham showcased his abilities during the World Cup last year, representing Gareth Southgate’s England team until their quarter-final exit against runners-up France.
The midfielder, who will turn 20 later this month, initially joined Dortmund from Birmingham in 2020 for a transfer fee of 25 million euros. He went on to play 132 games for the club, winning the German Cup in 2021.
Now, the question arises: Can Bellingham replicate his outstanding performance at Real Madrid, similar to Haaland’s impact at Manchester City? Fans believe that Bellingham will excel in Madrid under the guidance of Carlo Ancelotti, considering how impressive he has been at Borussia Dortmund.
However, it is difficult to predict if Bellingham will achieve the same level of success as Haaland in Manchester City. Haaland has been nothing short of phenomenal, helping his team secure three titles in his debut season with the club. Only time will tell if Bellingham can match such remarkable accomplishments.
