Will.i.am, a rapper from the United States, has emphasised the need for responsible regulations on artificial intelligence to foster innovation without compromising ethical principles.
During a conversation with CNBC, the rapper discussed the future of artificial intelligence, stressing the importance of regulation and cautioning against unrestrained technological progress.
Similar to financial assets kept in banks, the 49-year-old singer, whose real name is William James Adams Jr., also foresaw a change in the way data is managed.
Will.i.am highlighted the positive potential of artificial intelligence but warned against its misuse driven by greed.
“I’m an AI enthusiast and I love technology, but I’m also cautious. There is need for regulations and governance without stifling innovation, but we still have to be responsible,” he said.
“We’re walking into a world that we’ve never seen before, computers will be wiser than the wisest wise men and women. If you want a fair world, where AI is a human right, data practices have to be changed.
“Five years from now, you will have and own your own AI, data will be in everyone’s top of mind as something that is precious. There will be banks that bank our data like our money is kept safe.
“I look forward to it in hopes that humanity doesn’t lead with greed and these technologies be deployed to being a better world for us all.”
Will.i.am, a tech entrepreneur, has consistently supported innovation powered by artificial intelligence.
Last year, the rapper introduced RAiDiO.FYI, a radio platform powered by artificial intelligence.
His remarks come at a time when there is an ongoing global discussion about regulating artificial intelligence.
Last month, US Vice President JD Vance warned against overly strict regulations, stating that it could “paralyse one of the most promising technologies of our time.”
