Williams Uchemba Makes Bold Demand on How to End Kidnapping in Nigeria

Nollywood actor Williams Uchemba has called on the Nigerian government to introduce public executions for convicted kidnappers, arguing that only visible and decisive punishment can curb the country’s growing kidnapping crisis.

In a video posted on his Instagram page, Uchemba voiced his frustration over what he described as the government’s failure to implement existing capital punishment laws.

He said the lack of strict consequences has emboldened criminals to continue their activities without fear.

“The capital punishment for kidnapping is death, yet when offenders are arrested we hardly hear what happens afterwards,” he said.

“If you ask me, there should even be a dedicated TV channel showing the arrest and public execution of convicted kidnappers. Until real consequences are enforced, nothing will change.”

The actor referenced China as an example, noting that the Asian country retains the death penalty for serious crimes such as kidnapping and corruption — a policy he believes has helped maintain its low crime rate.

Uchemba’s remarks come amid a surge in abductions across Nigeria, particularly as the festive season approaches — a period often marked by increased criminal activity.

He urged the authorities to act swiftly and decisively, insisting that visible justice would serve as a deterrent and help restore public confidence in the system.
