Nikita Bier, the product head at X (formerly Twitter), has stepped down from his position after serving in the role for just over a year.

Bier announced his decision in a post on X, saying it was “time to pass the torch and demote myself to my natural state: a poster.” He added that he will continue to advise the company.

Responding to Bier’s post, Elon Musk thanked him for his contribution. “Thanks for helping make this platform much better! You will be missed,” Musk wrote.

What Bier Accomplished

Bier, a serial entrepreneur and Lightspeed venture partner, took over the product lead role in July 2025. In his farewell note, he highlighted overseeing the launch of nearly 30 new products and rebuilding core aspects of X, including the timeline, Android app, onboarding, notifications, and chat.

He also pointed to record-breaking growth in users and engagement, noting X had climbed 70 spots in the App Store over the past year.

His tenure also coincided with controversies, including issues with Grok, the chatbot developed by Musk’s xAI, which was misused to generate harmful content. Despite these challenges, Bier emphasized that X remains “the most important communication technology in history.”

Bier’s Farewell Note

“Serving the X community has been the privilege of a lifetime. X is, and will remain, the most important communication technology in history. But running this app is a 24/7 job and it’s now time for me to take a breather,” Bier wrote.

“The app is seeing unprecedented growth in new users and engagement. We continue to break records every month. We’ve climbed 70 spots in the App Store since this time last year.”

He also named colleagues who will continue leading design, product engineering, and mobile engineering.

The Bottom Line

X product head Nikita Bier has resigned after just over a year in the role. He oversaw the launch of nearly 30 products and rebuilt core aspects of the platform. Bier will continue as an advisor. Elon Musk thanked him for his contributions, saying, “You will be missed.” Bier’s tenure saw record growth but also controversies, including issues with the Grok chatbot.
