Real Madrid have announced that Xabi Alonso will be the new head coach of the team, signing the contract that goes all the way until 2027 – 28 season.
The former quality midfield backup is the one to replace the Italians and complete his second term on Saturday with the team, the main part of the Bernabéu watching over the Brazil national team as a head coach.
The 42-year-old ex-player, who was a Champions League and LaLiga champion when he played for Madrid, will come back to the team he had the leading role in once.
After taking Bayer Leverkusen to the title of the Bundesliga in 2023–24, his name in the manager community was almost there. The team won the championship without losing in the domestic league, yet at the same time missed the opportunity to take the cup home when they faced the Atalanta defeat at the Europa League final.
While this year Bayer Leverkusen was second in the Bundesliga, Alonso has achieved a massive victory of 63% in all the matches in the league.
However, he not only will replace Ancelotti, who is the most successful manager at the Real Madrid club, but also he will be tasked with the tough challenge of equalling his achievements in the future as he had won 15 major trophies in his two spells with Los Blancos.
The question is how Ancelotti’s successor, former Liverpool and Bayern player, Xabi, is going to lead the team through next season
