Lamine Yamal emphatically showed what a meteoric rise his career is by grabbing his second Laureus award at the Laureus World Sports Awards in Madrid.
The 18-year-old FC Barcelona attacker was the first-ever Young Sportsperson of the Year; however, he also received the 2025 Breakthrough Sportsperson award. He is now the only footballer besides Messi to have won Laureus awards more than once, thus his set to match the achievement of Messi.
At the event at Cibeles Palace, Yamal thanked his family, teammates, and coaches for their support. He also admitted that there are “many more things” for him to do in his profession.

He even mentioned Messi as a great player and inspiration by saying, “Messi is the best player in history.” Interestingly, no other player has won the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year award twice; Messi did it in 2020 and 2023.
In fact, Yamal’s high-class football this term has been one of the main reasons for Barcelona’s ascendance in the standings, having scored 15 goals and 11 assists. Besides, he was recently awarded the Kopa Trophy and also became the youngest player to have 20 Champions League goal contributions. Besides the present, he even owns the future.
