In the aftermath of a recent fire outbreak at the new female hostel of Yobe State University, Professor Mala Mohammed Daura, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, has assured parents and guardians of the safety of their children at the university.
Daura had made this statement while speaking with journalists on Friday, about the university’s status after the fire that engulfed the entire new female hostel, which was housing approximately 195 students.
Professor Daura had said that the university management, through its committee, was committed to providing all necessary support to the students affected by the disaster.
The Professor had praised the transparency of the committee and its consistent reporting to the Vice Chancellor’s office on a regular basis, regarding the situation and the affected students.
“The place where the students are residing now cannot be permanent accommodations because we are looking forward to creating permanent accommodations for them.
“There is a building that has not been finished, so we went and made a survey and proposal to the state government to finish up the construction of that building.”
The Vice-Chancellor also revealed that the university had received aid from various entities, including government, non-governmental organizations, investment companies, ministries, the state Assembly, the National Assembly, corporate organizations, and individuals and that the university management has provided over one thousand pieces of notebooks and writing materials to the affected students.
“The management is also providing condiments and ingredients for cooking food three times a day, while the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has provided the foodstuffs.”
The Vice Chancellor added.
Finally, Daura expressed his gratitude to the state fire service, security personnel, and members of the communities for their aid and support during and after the ugly fire incident.
