Zamfara College of Education Lecturers Commence Strike, Demand for Provost Removal

The Academic Staff of the Federal College of Education (Technical), FCET, Gusau, Zamfara State, has commenced on an indefinite strike to really emphasise on their demand for the immediate removal of the Provost, Mrs Hauwa’u Gimbiya Mukhtar Abdulkarim.

According to a statement issued by the chairman of the union, Dr Abdullahi Muhammad, the provost was not capable and equipped for the position and must step down before they could go back to work.

Muhammad had also further stated that members of the union would not be able to work under a provost that has been announced as unqualified and unsuitable by the Federal Ministry of Education.

Zamfara College of Education Lecturers Commence Strike, Demand for Provost Removal

The statement reads partly:
“The Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) FCET, Gusau chapter held its congress meeting on 12th March 2024.

“The association’s members are hellbent on suspending all academic and administrative activities until the Federal Ministry of Education’s directives over the vexed appointment of Dr (Mrs) Hauwa’u Gimbiya Mukhtar Abdulkarim as the substantive Provost of Federal College of Education (Technical) Gusau are executed.”

“She should resign and hand over to the most senior academic staff in the College.”

Dr Hauwa’u Gimbiya Mukhtar Abdulkarim had been appointed as the substantive provost of Federal College of Education (Technical) Gusau on the 14th August 2023.
