Liz Sanya, a British-Nigerian shoe designer, has shattered the Guinness World Record for the largest sandal. Her pink clog masterpiece measured an astonishing 8.147 metres (26 feet 8.8 inches) in length and 3.156 metres (10 feet 4.2 inches) in width to beat the previous record by artisans from Mexico.
Sanya started the record-breaking on January 2, 2025, after the green light from Guinness World Records, and finished in 72 hours. The event went down at Pixel Park in Lekki, Lagos, with some big guns in the industry headlining the event. These include Pheelz, Mayorkun, Korty EO, and P.Prime, among others.
Speaking shortly after her record, Sanya thanked her fans as she explained why she chose to bring the record attempt to Nigeria.
“Ibadan is where I was born. Lagos is where I was inspired. It was only right to come back home and prove it,” she said.
Her remarkable feat sets a new world record, but more importantly, it underlines her strong connection to her Nigerian roots.
