At least 11 people have been feared dead after gunmen attacked a Mosque in Ruwan Jema community in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State and opened fire.

A resident of the area, Salisu Ibrahim had told newsmen from Channels Television that the terrorists invaded the community at about 1:50 pm on Friday, September 23, 2022, and went straight to the community’s central mosque where people had already gathered for prayer.

They had then proceeded to open fire on the worshippers, killing at least 11 persons, while several others were injured.

The community had also been ransacked and it is believed that other residents in the community had also been killed, but the numbers are still yet to be ascertained.

The lucky individuals who had survived the incident initially felt that a total of 15 people had been killed, but it turned out that four of the 15 were unconscious and not dead.

By 7 pm on Saturday, September 24, the 11 people confirmed killed had been buried according to Muslim laws.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Zamfara Command, SP Mohammed Shehu, confirmed the attack but added that the details about the number of people killed and injured were not completely certain.
