A lifelong bachelor mayor in the Philippines nation is giving the single staff extra pay on Tuesday for Valentine’s Day, as an appreciation for the extra hours they work and to additionally show that ‘someone cares for them.’
According to Mayor Matt, single workers at General Luna town hall in Quezon province will receive three times their normal daily wage if they have been single for over five years.
“On Valentine’s Day, nobody will give them chocolates or flowers, so we thought of giving them this incentive so they can feel that someone cares for them and that someone loves them.”
Florido would be financing the 28,000-peso (approximately $511) handout from his pocket.
The payments will be given to the singles at a Valentine’s Day party for all the staff on Tuesday evening.
