It’s getting more and more feisty to replace President Muhammadu Buhari at Aso Rock as the 2023 presidential election nears, since the APC decided to give its presidential ticket to someone from the South. After President Muhammadu Buhari made some comments about the qualities he would love to see in his ideal candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC’s national leader and one of its top leaders, decided to pay him a visit in Aso Rock. From there, he said, he wants to run for president in 2023.
Many expected Osinbajo to follow in Tinubu’s footsteps and declare his candidacy right away, but he left everyone guessing. According to a reliable source, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has finally told President Muhammadu Buhari about his plans to run for president.
President Muhammadu Buhari has been told by Osinbajo that he wants to be the next leader of Nigeria when his term ends in 2023. This is because he wants to build on the progress the party has made since taking power from the opposition PDP in 2015.
It’s worth noting that, following his decision to run for president, the vice president will compete for the ruling All Progressives Congress’s (APC) ticket with people like Asiwaju Tinubu, who visited the Presidential Villa a few months ago to inform Buhari of his intention to succeed him.
Chris Ngige has said that he will run for president in the near future. There are also rumors that the Transportation Minister, Rotimi Amaechi, and the governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, will run, even though Ngige has said he will soon do so.
Many political observers have stated that Yemi Osinbajo perfectly fulfills the parameters and traits that IBB has specified for the country’s next president. In comparison to his godfather, Tinubu, he is now seen as a better candidate. It should be remembered that these two men have recently visited palaces in different regions; their foot soldiers have marched through the streets; and their opponents have been highlighting the weaknesses of each other. That is all politics is about, but what does the future hold for their supporters?
Some have speculated that Osinbajo will struggle to win against Tinubu. Asiwaju and Osinbajo have come a long way since their first meeting. Others have hypothesized that the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), where Osinbajo is a senior pastor, has lately established a directorate for politics and governance, which has raised eyebrows in many places.
They said it was a way to get the church’s huge followers in Nigeria and around the world to help the vice president run for president.
