With deadline day looming next month, squads for the 2026 World Cup are starting to take shape, and national teams are slowly picking and choosing the players that they deem good enough for the tournament.

They were required to submit a provisional squad of somewhere between 35 and 55 players to FIFA by 11 May; many federations did not want their provisional squads made public.

The final squad of 26 players is due to be selected on 1 June, the same day that all 26 teams are expected to be selected and the FIFA squad lists need to be confirmed by. All national squad lists will be made public by FIFA on June 2.

Already, there has been a provisional squad announcement from the Brazil boss, Carlo Ancelotti. The list saw the likes of Neymar, Vinicius Junior, Raphinha, and Gabriel Martinelli feature, with even the old guard, Casemiro, handed a call-up. This list also saw the inclusion of Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes and Manchester United striker Matheus Cunha.

Argentina’s provisional list sees the attack marshaled by Lionel Messi and Julian Alvarez, with Lautaro Martinez leading the attack as well, and Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has been named on this talented list, even though Lisandro Martinez of Manchester United, a doubt over injury, has been included.

France’s final squad was first announced by any of the major teams. Didier Deschamps’ powerful front line sees Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele, Bradley Barcola, and Michael Olise all included, as well as Arsenal’s William Saliba and Chelsea’s Malo Gusto.

The Sweden final squad saw strikers Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyokeres included at the head of their line, as Chris Wood is set to lead the line for New Zealand.

Mexico’s enlarged preliminary squad includes the likes of veteran duo Guillermo Ochoa, Raul Jimenez, and Santiago Gimenez, as Mexico’s Javier Aguirre will prepare to tackle the group stages.

Nations such as England, Spain, Germany, Portugal, the USA, etc., are only a matter of time away from announcing their squads.
