The Federal Government has named celebrated music icon Innocent “2Baba” Idibia as the new National Fire Safety Ambassador, assigning him the responsibility of driving a nationwide campaign on fire-prevention awareness.
The announcement was made by the Controller General of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), Samuel Adeyemi, during the closing ceremony of the 2025 National Fire Safety Week held at the Service Headquarters on Friday.
Adeyemi explained that 2Baba was selected because of his ability to influence public behaviour positively, noting that many Nigerians still treat fire outbreaks as “distant possibilities,” a mindset he warned is risky and contributes to needless tragedies.

This year’s Fire Safety Week featured several activities designed to promote a deeper understanding of fire-prevention practices across the country. Highlights included a virtual town hall meeting that kick-started the campaign, the presentation of Group Life Insurance Scheme cheques to families of officers who died or were injured in the line of duty, and the CG’s Cup and medal awards.
Firefighters also embarked on sensitisation outreach in schools, markets, communities, and major business hubs nationwide. Roadshows, drills, and live demonstrations were used to teach practical fire-safety techniques to citizens.
According to Adeyemi, public participation exceeded expectations, saying the level of engagement was “remarkable” and reflected a “renewed national commitment to fire safety.”
The finale of the event also honoured individuals and organisations that showed outstanding dedication to fire-risk reduction and compliance.
Addressing attendees, Adeyemi urged those who received certificates to spread the fire-safety message in their homes, offices, and communities.
Speaking on 2Baba’s appointment, the CG added: “As a National Fire Safety Ambassador, we expect him to inspire a new generation to embrace a culture of safety.”
