Nigerian music icon Innocent Idibia, known to fans as 2Baba, has publicly apologised after facing strong criticism over remarks he made suggesting men are not naturally inclined to remain sexually faithful.

The singer sparked outrage during a recent appearance on Nedu Wazobia’s podcast, where he claimed monogamy goes against male nature.

His comments quickly drew backlash across social media, with many accusing him of fuelling harmful narratives.

In a video shared on his Instagram page on Wednesday, 2Baba admitted he handled the subject poorly and expressed deep regret.

“I know I have fucked up with what I have said. I really, really fucked up the way I said it. I’m going to pay with a heavy price. I’m going to face the consequences,” he said in the clip.

He clarified that his intention was to be understood, but acknowledged that his delivery fell short.

“I said it because I want people to understand me, but maybe I didn’t say it appropriately. I own up to my mistake.”

The singer also used the opportunity to apologise to his wife, Natasha, acknowledging that his words did not reflect the values expected of someone with his public image.

“But one thing I know for sure is I’m sorry to my wife Natasha. Calling me a legend is an honor, but this my talk is quite unlegendly,” he admitted.

Reflecting on the intense public response, he added:
“The amount of response that I get has made me see how much people love and respect me. For me to now use stupid statements to cancel everything, that’s not who I am. I’m sorry.”

The incident has renewed conversations around the responsibilities of celebrities when discussing sensitive topics related to gender and relationships.
