Searching for a job in Nigeria today is almost a ‘job’ itself.  It’s quite difficult for a beginner to hunt for a job.

With regards to this, I have researched and come up with 5 tips that will help make your job search easier.

Table of Contents

Toggle
  • 1. Customize and update your resume
  • 2. Meet the employers in person
  • 3. Apply Even If You’re not Perfectly fit
  • 4. Network with others related to your field
  • 5. Maintain a good working relationship with your current employers

1. Customize and update your resume

Before applying for a job, update your CV by adding any new skills, certificates, awards, or achievements. You should also revise your summary or objectives. Read the job’s description and ensure that your skills match it.

You should also visit the company’s website to find relative keywords to add to your resume. This will keep your application top and reduce the chances of ignoring applications by employers.

2. Meet the employers in person

If possible, try visiting the companies related to your field to enquire about vacant positions. If they are not hiring, drop off your resume or leave your contact details. This shows your interest in working for the company and gives you a great chance of being the first to be contacted in case of a vacancy.

3. Apply Even If You’re not Perfectly fit

You don’t need to have all the requirements for a job. You can still apply even if you only have about 60% of the needed requirements. Sometimes employers already know the top requirements needed for the job, so they may not mind if you don’t have the other not-so-important qualifications.

4. Network with others related to your field

The contact you have can link you to a job. Try networking with people related to your field, they may post adverts for positions you may be interested in. Online sites like LinkedIn, Facebook, and the rest offer you the opportunity to network with others.

5. Maintain a good working relationship with your current employers

If you are searching for a job while working for a company, you should strive to maintain a good working relationship with your employers and coworkers. Gaining a reputation in your current job will help serve as a reference should you get shortlisted for a job. Also, your coworkers may do well to link you with openings they come across.

What other tips do you think will help to make job search easier?
