President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will travel to Accra, Ghana, on Monday, January 6, to attend the inauguration of Ghana’s President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, on January 7.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy. According to the statement, President Tinubu’s visit follows an invitation extended by Mahama, who is set to succeed President Nana Akufo-Addo after his reelection in December 2024.

Accompanying Delegation

President Tinubu will be accompanied by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and other senior Nigerian government officials. Leaders from other African countries are also expected to attend the event.

Strengthening Bilateral and Regional Ties

The statement emphasized the longstanding personal relationship between President Tinubu and Mahama, as well as the strong bilateral ties between Nigeria and Ghana. Tinubu’s participation also reflects his role as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, reflecting Nigeria’s commitment to regional cooperation and leadership.

Mahama previously served as Ghana’s 12th president from 2011 to 2017 and is returning to office following his recent electoral victory. His inauguration marks a key political transition in Ghana and is expected to draw attention across the region.
