Trent Alexander-Arnold200mG Ever since they were wronged in the 2022 UEFA final, Real Madrid has had an “eye” on Liverpool right back Trent Alexander-Arnold and this has been coupled with a slew of poor contract renewals at Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid. The La Liga giants view the England international as an ideal successor to 32-year-old Dani Carvajal, who is entering the twilight years of his career.
Real’s preference is to sign Alexander-Arnold in the summer (which has been reported by The Athletic) however, they are willing to negotiate terms for the club’s immediate to strengthen their squad ahead of a push for the Champions League. But Madrid’s overtures have already been turned down by Liverpool this month and there were no formal discussions over a fee for a transfer.
Liverpool, displaying a near-utter unwillingness to lose a player mid-season even if injuries have decimated their defence, were similarly unimpressed. But should the Reds cash in before his contract expires, Madrid would be prepared to “agree a fair price.”
Alex Carvajal is not expected back until the summer, and so Lucas Vázquez is the only senior right back in Madrid’s squad; signing Alexander-Arnold, then, is a higher priority than signing a centre-back. From an attacking point of view, the 25-year-old could yet prove a key player in Europe.
Alexander-Arnold has previously spoken about his desire to win the Ballon d’Or — an achievable feat at Madrid, where he’d achieve a reunion with close friend Jude Bellingham.
