It will end In Tears for Nigeria if Eguavoen is in Charge at the Nations Cup

Jose Peseiro was on Wednesday appointed new coach of the Super Eagles. The NFF who has been in search of a coach for the country’s football team announced the appointment of the 61yr old Portuguese tactician to replace the recently sacked Gernot Rohr. However, the new head coach will not be in the dugout when the Super Eagles battle it out at the African Cup of Nations that is scheduled to begin in Cameroon in January.

According to the NFF, the newly appointed Super Eagles gaffer will be at the nations cup in Cameroon, but will there as a spectator and not in the team’s dugout. Instead current interim coach, Augustine Eguavoen, will be in charge to lead the team in all their matches.

Now think about that. The very same Eguavoen?

As we applaud the appointment of a new coach, Eguavoen’s decision remains shocking to all football lovers across the country.

This will not end well for the Super Eagles – It is not a matter of pessimism. Eguavoen is not that coach. He has proven this over time – His decision making is way off from what the national team needs if we are to compete with teams with better tacticians in their dugout.

We don’t need mama Solo the Prophetess to tell us this. It is a fact that we have all seen played out several times in prior games that he took charge.

Let me say it again, Eguavoen’s decision is a terrible one.

It will end in tears. There is only one way to put it.

As a country blessed with abundant football talents at home and abroad, we should be tired of getting enshrouded allegations of players bribing coaches to be featured over the obviously more talented ones.

It won’t be surprising if there are more of these allegations unraveling after the nations cup. No one should pretend they never heard this before. We can still rectify this decision. The new coach can still get to know his team before they leave for Cameroon.

This will end in tears.
