Five people have been shot at Risbergska school, an adult education center in Orebro, central Sweden, prompting a major police response and raising concerns about school safety. The shooting occurred on Tuesday, February 4 afternoon, sending shockwaves through the community.

Police have classified the incident as an attempted murder, arson, and aggravated weapons offense, indicating the severity of the attack. Meanwhile, the motive behind the shooting remains under investigation.

The Risbergska School Shooting: Five Injured, One in Critical Condition

Five people were injured in the shooting at Risbergska school, an adult education center in Orebro. All victims have been transported to local hospitals, with four undergoing surgery. Local health services representative, Jonas Claesson have said one person is in critical condition.

A large-scale police investigation is underway, led by local police chief of Orebro, Roberto Eid Forest. While police have confirmed that the suspect is a man, they have not released further details about the individual. The manhunt is ongoing.

School Evacuations and Lockdown: Safety Measures Implemented

Following the shooting, nearby schools were immediately evacuated as a precautionary measure. Students and staff were kept indoors “for security purposes” while police secured the area and searched for the suspect. The lockdown was lifted later as the situation stabilized.

Despite the ongoing investigation, police issued a warning to the public, stating that “the danger is not over.” They urged residents to stay away from the area surrounding Risbergska school and remain vigilant.

The Eyewitness Accounts of the Risbergska school shooting

Lena Warenmark, a teacher at a nearby school, told SVT, Swedish public radio, that she heard approximately 10 gunshots. Her account provides a chilling glimpse into the unfolding events and the fear experienced by those in the vicinity.

Swedish Justice Minister Gunnar Strommer addressed the nation, calling the attack at Orebro “very serious.” The government is closely monitoring the situation and offering support to local authorities.

Orebro, the location of the shooting, is a city situated 200km (124 miles) west of Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. The incident underscores the growing concern about gun violence in Sweden.
