Kaduna State is witnessing a political shift as Governor Uba Sani officially welcomes 50 new members into the All Progressives Congress (APC). The wave of defections is seen as a major boost for the ruling party ahead of the 2027 elections. Among the high-profile politicians switching allegiance are former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani, ex-Governor Muktar Yero, former NNPP governorship candidate Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi, and ex-PDP Senator Danjuma Laah. Others include Sani Shaaban, a former ADP governorship candidate, Abubakar Mustapha, former PDP National Organising Secretary, and Ambassador Sule Buba, Nigeria’s former envoy to South Korea.

Governor Uba Sani addressed a crowd at Murtala Square, Kaduna, emphasizing that all APC members—new or old—will be treated equally. “Someone who joins APC today and one who has been a foundation member 10 years ago are of the same status. They will enjoy the same rights and privileges,” he stated. He called on the new defectors to spread the message, encouraging more supporters to join the APC.

Governor Uba Sani Confident in APC’s Future Ahead of 2027 Elections
Governor Uba Sani exuded confidence in APC’s dominance in the 2027 elections, citing the party’s leadership at both state and federal levels as the driving force behind its growing popularity.

He declared, “In the 2027 elections, Nigerians will vote APC in all positions, from top to bottom. At the top, our leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will be re-elected. At the state level, APC will win the governorship, National Assembly, and State Assembly elections by the grace of God.”

Political analysts believe these defections are strategic moves that could strengthen APC’s hold in Kaduna State. However, some persons argue that defections alone do not guarantee electoral success. They point out that political loyalty in Nigeria is fluid, and voters may not necessarily follow politicians who switch parties.

Kaduna State Politics Shifts as APC Gains Strength

With more politicians defecting to the APC, the party appears to be positioning itself as the dominant force in Kaduna State politics. Governor Uba Sani assured residents that his administration remains committed to delivering development projects across the state, regardless of political or ethno-religious differences.

“Politics is different from governance. We will be fair to all, whether or not they voted for us, because that is the oath of office we swore to uphold,” he added.

He also urged political leaders to remember their responsibility to the people and to govern with fairness and justice. The question remains whether these defections will translate into real electoral success for the APC in 2027. With the growing number of politicians joining APC, it is clear the party is preparing for a tough political battle ahead.
