Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has approved the transfer of the Rivers State University (RSU) campus in Kira, Tai Local Government Area, to the Federal University of Environment and Technology (FUET), Ogoni. This decision follows an on-site inspection of the Kira campus on Thursday, where Governor Fubara, accompanied by RSU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nlerum Okogbule, assessed the suitability of the facilities.

Assessment and Assurance

The Governor confirmed the property’s suitability for FUET’s commencement, stating, “From what we have seen, it is a well-planned-out place and I strongly believe that it is suitable for the take-off of this University.” He assured that the Rivers State Government would develop a new campus for RSU, ensuring the state university’s continued operation. This move complies with the federal government’s request for land to establish FUET.

Full Transfer and Future Plans

The Governor explicitly stated that the RSU facility will be fully released to the federal government to facilitate FUET’s immediate establishment. While plans on the construction of a new campus for RSU is already in progress.
