Constant electric power supply is one thing that has been hardly achievable in many parts of Nigeria and in most countries in Africa.

We have witnessed occasions where lightning or heavy rainfalls, and other mild natural occurrences have led to power outage for several days, if not weeks, and this has been bitterly complained about by Nigerians. Sometimes, when the power outage cannot be attributed to any natural occurrence, Nigerians attribute it to the ineptitude of the power sector workers, and even to their village people.

In fact, the Minister of Power, Abubakar Aliyu, recently at a state house briefing in Abuja blamed the inconstant electric power supply on the dry season, which resulted in low water levels at the hydro dams.

Minister of Power, Abubakar Aliyu

On many occasions, we’ve been promised that uninterrupted supply would be achieved but still, we haven’t been able to see that promise come to fruition. I remember President Muhammadu Buhari’s  Independence day speech on October 1, 2019, in which he said we would have uninterrupted and affordable power supply in a not too distant future. I remember how a former NERC chairman, Prof. James Momoh said he dreamt that Nigeria had 24 hours, uninterrupted power supply when he and others in the power sector could have worked together to achieve that.

But one fascinating thing is that despite the challenges faced in achieving constant electric power supply in numerous parts of the country, there are also some places that enjoy near-constant electric power supply, except when the transformer goes bad. Let’s have a look at some of these places located at several states in the country.
