The illegal occupants who had turned the Oja Oba Bridge in the state’s Adeniji Adele neighbourhood into apartments were forced out by the Lagos State Ministry of Environment on Wednesday.

Wahab Tokunbo, the Commissioner for Environment, shared videos of the operation on his X page on Thursday, explaining that the objective was to restore order and cleanliness to the area.

This move is part of a broader initiative by the Lagos State Government to clear structures set up unlawfully under various bridges across the state.

Wahab explained that bridges are designed to facilitate smooth traffic and promote urban organisation in cities like Lagos.

He stated, “We have initiated a thorough clean-up and enforcement operation at Under Bridge, Oja Oba, Adeniji Adele, Lagos Island. These spaces, originally meant for movement and urban order, have now been cleared to create a safer and tidier environment for everyone.”

The commissioner also mentioned that the ministry would continue to uphold environmental regulations and encouraged residents to contribute to keeping Lagos clean.

“Our dedication to restoring order and enforcing environmental standards across Lagos is unwavering. We urge everyone to play a role in maintaining the cleanliness and organisation of our city,” Wahab added.
