MANCHESTER CITY have been handed a huge injury boost with midfield general Rodri and hotshot Erling Haaland both returning to training before Friday’s Premier League match with in-form Wolves.

Rodri has been sidelined since September after damaging his anterior cruciate ligament and needing surgery. City manager Pep Guardiola revealed on Thursday that Spain midfielder Silva, 28, was on the training pitch for the first time in seven months. It may be too late for a return to match action to affect City’s flagging title challenge, but his comeback brings good news for the end of the season – and beyond.

“As soon as the physios and doctor say he can play, Rodri will play,” Guardiola said. “But we’ve got to be careful — it was a real serious injury.”

Guardiola added that Haaland is training again, having picked up an ankle problem in the FA Cup win over Bournemouth in March. However, the 24-year-old is unlikely to be risked against Wolves.

City, who are fourth on 61 points from 34 games, face a fight to secure a top-four finish and Champions League football. Friday’s opponents, Wolves, are on a six-match winning streak, meaning that Friday’s contest is yet another high-pressure encounter in an increasingly tense run-in for City.

“It’s a final,” Guardiola said then. “We have four left.”
