Chelsea have pulled out from the Sancho deal after the contract talks are over

According to The Athletic, Chelsea have opted not to make Jadon Sancho’s loan transfer permanent from Manchester United, as the player’s representatives and the English club could not reach an agreement on the personal terms. The 25-year-old winger had come over to the Blues on a loan deal last August which included an option to make the deal permanent for a fee of up to £25 million.

Additionally, the penalty of £5 million will be charged by Chelsea to United for not availing the option. Sancho, although having a recent goal in a very high-profile match of the UEFA Conference League final — a 4-1 demonstration of superiority over Real Betis —had a pretty uneasy season this term where he could turn in only five goals whilst assisting the further ten out of his joined 41 appearances. He has not been in his best form since scoring only once in the Premier League after the December game against the bottom placed Norwich.

When the transfer of Sancho was brought up, Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca commented on the situation: “We are going to sit down with the club and see what is the plan for next year,” immediately after the game. “

United legally has the option to release Sancho back or retain him for an additional one year given that the contract binds him to Old Trafford till 2026.

On the other hand, The Blues took an £18 million investment in Dario Essugo from Sporting Lisbon for the purpose of enhancing their midfield.
