The Kaduna State Police Command has officially confirmed that the man who crossed security lines during President Bola Tinubu’s visit to Murtala Mohammed Square suffers from a psychiatric disorder. The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, issued a statement revealing that the man, Umar Mohammed, is a native of Anguwan Muazu in Kaduna and was born with mental health issues.
According to the police, Umar Mohammed had been screened like every other All Progressives Congress (APC) supporter, dressed in campaign T-shirts and carrying banners bearing the images of President Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani. The police insisted that his breach of protocol was not political but a spontaneous act “out of excitement” and an eagerness to get closer to the President.
Police Say There Was No Threat
Following the breach, the man was arrested on the spot by the security team. “He was immediately blocked and apprehended,” the police explained, adding that no incriminating item was found on him after a thorough search. The Command emphasized that the situation was under control and that the man’s actions posed no direct threat to the President or anyone at the event.
Commissioner Warns Against Politicising the Incident
Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, has warned members of the public to stop spreading misinformation about the incident. “We urge people not to politicise this or share false narratives,” he said. The commissioner also stated that a full investigation will be conducted to further assess the situation.
While many initially speculated political undertones behind the breach, the official police stance is clear: Umar Mohammed acted out of personal excitement and his known mental health condition. The police stressed that he remains in custody and the matter is still being reviewed.
