Borussia Dortmund got their first ever win at the FIFA Club World Cup by a 4-3 score against Mamelodi Sundowns in a crazy match in Cincinnati.

Lucas Ribeiro Costa’s stunning solo goal gave the South African champions the lead in the 11th minute after they caught the German side off guard. However, the lead was gone in a flash because of a very expensive mistake by Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, who gave Felix Nmecha a simple goal only five minutes later.

Before halftime, Serhou Guirassy headed the ball in to give them the lead, and after that, the new signing of the summer, Jobe Bellingham scored his first goal for the club to make it 3-1 at the break.

Dortmund netted another one after few minutes of the second half when Khuliso Mudau unintentionally redirected Daniel Svensson’s cross into the goal. Nonetheless, Sundowns did not give up.

Iqraam Rayners brought Sundowns back in the game midway through the second half, and Lebo Mothiba put the finishing touch in the dying moments of the game, hence the nervous finish.

Nevertheless the determined fightback, Dortmund kept the lead and transferred the full points home, thus getting closer to the next stages of the competition after a frustrating draw with Fluminense in their opening game.
