The Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has been declared out of the club’s pre-season tour of the United States due to a hamstring injury. The 29-year-old player will still accompany the team but has no intention of participating in Premier League Summer Series games.
Onana’s vacation has made it possible for Altay Bayindir to come in and grab the opportunity. He is slated to be the starter in the upcoming friendlies against West Ham United, Bournemouth, and Everton. Ruben Amorim will also look into other goalkeeper choices, with Tom Heaton among them—he has just gotten a one-year contract extension—plus those from the academy Radek Vitek, Hubert Graczyk, Elyh Harrison, and Dermot Mee.

This unfortunate occurrence follows a rough 2024-25 season for Onana, when he was a goal machine for the opposition, letting in 44 goals in the Premier League—only one of the highest among top-flight goalkeepers. Besides, he did three mistakes that caused goals to the other side, equaling the number of West Ham’s Alphonse Areola and being just behind Arijanet Muric, Robert Sanchez, and Bart Verbruggen.
However, new boss Amorim stand behind Onana openly, stating that the latter will give it all to regain his old form. That is the case though, as reports from Brazil insinuate that United could be on the lookout for replacements, with Botafogo’s John Victor being among those mentioned as possible candidates.
The supporters of United will be optimistic that the healing of Onana will be at its best and at the same time, the club gets ready for a major season under the new leadership.
