Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has hit another major milestone in her career as her hit collaboration Wait For U with Future and Drake surpasses 1 billion streams on Spotify.
In recognition of this achievement, Tems has been awarded Spotify’s prestigious Billion Streams plaque, joining the ranks of Afrobeats stars like Wizkid, Rema, and Tyla who have also reached the billion-stream mark on the platform.
Wait For U marked a significant turning point in Tems’ international rise. The track earned her a Grammy Award in 2023 for Best Melodic Rap Performance, making it her first Grammy win.
The song also broke records in 2022, as Tems became the first African artist to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart—a historic moment for both her career and African music as a whole.
