The Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos has officially renamed the well-known Charly Boy Bus Stop to honour indigenous rapper and music mogul, Olamide Adedeji, popularly known as Baddo.
The announcement came on Friday during the unveiling of several newly completed projects in the area. Speaking at the event, the Chairman of Bariga LCDA, Kolade Alabi David, said the decision was part of a larger effort to recognise local legends who have made lasting contributions to music and culture.
“Ajidagan Street is now officially named Olamide Adedeji Baddo Street. Consequently, Charly Boy Bus Stop will now be referred to as Baddo Bus Stop,” he said.
The location was originally named after veteran performer and social activist Charles Oputa, known to many as Charly Boy.
Olamide wasn’t the only Nigerian star honoured by the council. Ilaje Road has been renamed King Sunny Ade Road, paying tribute to the iconic juju musician. Meanwhile, Ifeanyi Street now carries the name of afro-pop artist 9ice, famed for his chart-topping song Gongo Aso.
Other notable renamings include Community Road in Akoka, now called Babajide Sanwo-Olu Road; Bariga Road, which has become Bola Ahmed Tinubu Road; and Ayodele Street, which now bears the name of Tony Tetuila, another prominent music figure.
The renaming initiative is seen as a cultural homage to both artists and leaders with strong ties to the Bariga community.
