Oscar Piastri not only extended his Formula 1 championship lead with a convincing win at a rain-interrupted Belgian Grand Prix on Sunday but also beat McLaren teammate Lando Norris in a clinical performance at Spa-Francorchamps.

Due to heavy rain, the race was 80 minutes late to start and it started behind the safety car. Piastri however was not waiting for anyone. The Australian who started second overtook Norris at Les Combes on lap one and kept the leadership despite a late charge. He controlled the tyre degradation perfectly and finished 3.4 seconds ahead of Norris.

This was the sixth victory of the season for Piastri’s, and his first victory at the Spa, and eighth overall, to increase his lead at the championship to 16 points after 13 races. The result also saw McLaren’s sixth 1-2 finish and their 10th win of a dominant 2025 campaign.

Charles Leclerc completed the podium for Ferrari after fending off Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. George Russell (Mercedes) was fifth while Lewis Hamilton gradually moved up from a pitlane start to finish seventh behind Alex Albon.

“It was quite a race,” stated Piastri. “I was aware that lap one would be very important. After that we were able to handle everything well.”

“Oscar was the one who deserved it. He was just better today,” said Norris.
McLaren are driving force in both of the championships.
