Reports have indicated the army forces of Ukraine have forced Russian forces to withdraw from the city of Kharkiv. This report was made by the spokesperson for the Ukraine General Staff who was noted as saying that the “enemy’s main efforts are focused on making sure their units withdraw from the city of Kharkiv.”

However, aerial bombardments are still ongoing in the nearby area of Dergachi, a city located some 10 kilometers north of Kharkiv with reports of Friday revealing that Russian forces had hit one of the regional arms depots. Capturing Kharkiv had been one of the Russian offensive’s top priorities with the city’s heavy shelling within the first waves of the invasion claiming the lives of hundreds of civilians.

Addressing the nation, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in a video release said that the Ukrainian forces had done everything possible to liberate the country. Also speaking, Oleh Synyehubov, the governor of the Kharkiv region revealed that their armed forces were successfully pushing back the Russian troops and that already people were starting to return to their homes.

But the governor also warned that the situation was still precarious and people should take into careful consideration their safety before returning, revealing that Russian troops had heavily mined the area. Expatiating on the bombings of the nearby Dergachi he said, “This is to show that it is too early to relax. I urge everyone to respond adequately to alarms and not to be on the streets unnecessarily.”
