Nigerian street singer Habeeb Okikiola, famously known as Portable, has caused a stir with his recent statement on the upcoming 2027 general elections.
In a video posted on Instagram, Portable revealed that he would support whichever presidential candidate offers him money first, emphasizing that his fans would follow his decision.
“I will only vote for anyone who gives me money for the 2027 elections. Whoever drops money first between Peter Obi and Tinubu is the one I will endorse, and I will make sure my fans vote for him,” he declared.
He added, “I’m the owner of my money, I’m the owner of my voters card, I’m the owner of my life and my family. It’s anyone that drops money we’ll vote for, even if it’s Atiku’s party that gives us money or sponsors us. People are hungry, help me so that I can help my people, so you want to turn us to politics thugs.”
The singer’s comments follow months of frustration over his meeting with Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi in Benin City, Edo State. Portable complained that Obi only offered a handshake despite being on the same flight, with Obi seated in economy while he was in first class. He hinted that a meeting with President Bola Tinubu would have been more lucrative.
Earlier in July, Portable met with Seyi Tinubu, the President’s son, praising him for “changing his life” and promising that the current government would bring positive change to Nigerians.
