Actress and entrepreneur Temi Otedola, daughter of billionaire businessman Femi Otedola, has opened up about her choice to adopt her husband’s surname after marrying Afrobeats sensation Oluwatosin Oluwole Ajibade, popularly known as Mr Eazi.

Temi officially took on the name Temiloluwa Ajibade, a decision that sparked online debate, with some critics arguing that she had let go of the influential Otedola name that has long shaped her public identity.

In a BBC interview on Wednesday, Temi described her choice as deeply personal.

“I’m now a married woman, and the obvious thing for me was to take my husband’s name. But it’s my decision, and I respect that every woman has the right to choose,” she explained.

The actress also highlighted the value of maintaining privacy in her relationship, saying it has allowed her to manage her public image on her own terms.

“Moving in silence allows you to build your own story and share it when you’re ready,” she added.

Temi also reflected on her father’s newly released memoir, noting that it provides readers with insight into his decades-long entrepreneurial journey. She praised his perseverance and revealed that his choice to keep his children from directly joining his businesses encouraged them to carve independent paths.

“At first I was disappointed, but it turned out to be a blessing. It encouraged us to create our own way,” she said, adding that her father’s determination during challenging times continues to inspire her.

Acknowledging her privileged upbringing, Temi emphasized the importance of honesty about one’s advantages.

“Oh, absolutely. You will never hear me deny it. It’s important for people born into privilege to acknowledge the advantage they’ve had,” she stated.
