Nigerian singer Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, widely known as Iyanya, has appealed to the public to show more understanding and compassion toward celebrities, emphasizing that fame does not protect them from emotional or psychological struggles.
Sharing his thoughts in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, the Your Waist singer reflected on the realities of being in the public eye, describing the experience as “a double-edged sword.”
“We need to understand that celebrities are human with deep emotions and struggles like everyone else.
Beyond the glamorization is simply a person simply wishing to be human like the rest of us,” he wrote.
Iyanya also touched on the additional pressure faced by male celebrities, saying societal expectations often discourage them from expressing emotions or seeking help.
“For male celebrities, it is always difficult to bounce back after hitting a low point because men are wired to be stoic and not show vulnerability, not to ask for help for fear of being seen as weak,” he added.
