Nigerian Afrobeat sensation Yemi Alade has opened up about a difficult period in her life, revealing that repeatedly lying about her age once led her into depression.
In a candid conversation with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the award-winning singer admitted that she spent about three years claiming to be 22, only to later realise she was actually 25.

“There was a time someone asked me how old I was, and for about three years I kept saying 22. Then one day I calculated it and realised I was already 25,” she said.
“I was depressed for a few days because my mind couldn’t process it. It was mental — for three years I didn’t know my age.”
The “Johnny” crooner explained that the experience made her aware of how self-deception can affect one’s mental well-being, describing that phase of her life as both challenging and enlightening.
