Jannik Sinner climbed back to the top of men’s tennis by winning his first Paris Masters title by beating Felix Auger-Aliassime from Canada 6-4, 7-6(4) on Sunday.

The Italian’s achieve this milestone in the French capital with Carlos Alcaraz losing earlier, means that Sinner will be world number one once the ATP rankings are updated on Monday. This is the 5th trophy for the 24-year-old in 2025 and also the first time he has won a Masters 1000 event since Shanghai last October.

Sinner who was ranked world number one for the first time in June 2024, after his defeat at the US Open to Alcaraz, has not given up and has come back very strong. What is more, although he was forced to sit out three months of this year due to a positive test for clostebol, he has still been able to seize the titles of the Australian Open and Wimbledon in an incredible 2025 season.

Throughout the match against Auger-Aliassime, Sinner broke at the very beginning of the first set and then he managed to dominate the whole set with his aggressive ground strokes from the baseline.

In the second set, the Canadian barely held on to the few break points that he saved with great determination and then succeeded in getting a tie-break but Sinner’s unwavering play was the factor that made the difference as he ended the match with an amazing backhand winner.

On the other side, Auger-Aliassime was able to add a 4th title to his season record yet, but reaching the Paris masters finals will help him significantly in the race to the ATP Finals.
