Arsenal winger Noni Madueke says he has “never been happier in football”, praising the club’s culture and fan support as he reflected on his first six months in North London.
The 23-year-old moved the Gunners from Chelsea in a £52 million summer deal and was rapidly one of Arsenal’s big headliners early in the season, making a considerable impression when Bukayo Saka was out with an injury. After a knee injury, his progression has been stopped, but Madueke maintains that his adjustment to Arsenal life has been without any problems.
In an interview with club media, Madueke said the Arsenal atmosphere was far better than anything he had at Chelsea or PSV Eindhoven. “It’s not only a team of superstars but also a team of good people,” he stated. “The culture here is probably the best I have ever seen.”
Madueke could not believe the instant connection he had made with the Arsenal fans, especially when more than 5,000 supporters signed a petition online to show their disagreement with his signing.
“Things on social media were a bit rough, whereas inside the stadium it has been the complete opposite,” he explained. “I have never felt this close to fans before. Every time I get the ball, I hear them pushing me on. It definitely gives me great encouragement.”
The winger wants to come back after the international break and score his first Arsenal goal as he has 29 goal contributions to his name during his time at Chelsea.
