Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has shared her candid views on marriage, describing it as “overrated” while stressing that she is not actively seeking to walk down the aisle again.
The 42-year-old actress made this known during a recent interview on Naija FM Lagos, where she explained that although she is not against remarriage, it is not something she is pursuing.
“I am open to remarriage if it comes, but I am not looking for it. I have learnt not to say ‘never, ’” she said.
Speaking further, Jegede questioned the value society places on marriage, noting that many long-term relationships often collapse shortly after becoming official.

“I think marriage is overrated. A lot of people who dated for 10 to 15 years, got married, and they broke up within 2 to 3 years,” she stated. According to her, once the relationship is given a marital label, tolerance tends to reduce. “Sometimes, you wonder why such couples didn’t just remain unmarried. Because when they add the marriage tag, a lot of intolerance gets in the way.”
The actress added that companionship matters more to her than marital status. “I think it is better to find who you love and just cohabit with them,” she said.
Jegede was previously married to fellow actor Olakunle ‘Abounce’ Fawole, but the union ended in 2019, less than a year after it began. She has openly attributed the separation to issues such as financial imbalance and what she described as her ex-husband’s lack of respect and inability to manage their relationship.
In an earlier interview, the actress also revealed that she was the major financial provider in the marriage and admitted that choosing love over financial stability was a decision she later regretted.
