Nigerian skit maker and livestreamer Carter Efe is facing widespread criticism following conflicting narratives surrounding the collapse of his relationship with his baby mama, Emmanuella, as allegations of domestic abuse, emotional control, and opportunistic behaviour dominate social media discussions.
The controversy surfaced after Carter announced via Instagram and X that he and Emmanuella had been separated for more than a year.
He portrayed the period as one of deep emotional distress, financial struggle, and stalled creativity.
According to him, Emmanuella allegedly blocked him for five months and only resurfaced after his recent rise as a Twitch streamer, where he gained international exposure through collaborations with creators such as American rapper and streamer DDG.
Carter linked his recent success to resilience during what he described as a prolonged and damaging separation.

In a series of emotional Instagram Story posts, the content creator accused the relationship of negatively affecting both his career and mental health.
“This lady has frustrated my whole life to the extent I trend everyday for beating a lady For good two years I lost everything. I lost my mindset, I cannot think or shoot content, I got broke,” he wrote.
He further claimed that he was unable to see his child for several months and said relocating away from Emmanuella helped him regain stability.
“These days you guys noticed I’ve been happy and active. It’s because I was able to move away since. I’m aggressively active. God is good,” he added.
Carter also alleged that Emmanuella returned only after his career began gaining momentum, describing her actions as opportunistic. He recounted periods of hardship, including living in a single room with his team before being evicted, while crediting faith and perseverance for his eventual breakthrough.
However, his account was strongly disputed by influencer JoJo of Lele, who accused Carter of repeatedly assaulting Emmanuella and claimed she was forced out of their home on several occasions during the relationship.
The situation intensified after Nigerian social media critic VeryDarkMan shared videos showing Emmanuella appearing visibly distressed, with swollen eyes.
Reacting to the situation, VeryDarkMan said he had previously accused Carter of physical abuse.
“I called him a woman beater… I specifically said he beats his wife,” he wrote, urging Emmanuella to speak publicly about her experience.
The videos triggered heated online debate, with some viewers attributing her appearance to emotional trauma, while others interpreted the footage as supporting abuse allegations. Carter Efe has not directly responded to the videos.
Amid the growing backlash, Emmanuella released a video on Instagram on Monday, challenging Carter’s version of events and offering her own account of the relationship.
She stated that they had been together only days before his public announcement and accused him of distorting the truth.
“We were literally together three days ago… we have a baby together, and for you to cater for your child, I have to come to you before you can give me money, even though you say we aren’t together anymore,” she said.
Emmanuella further accused Carter of controlling her personal life and stifling her career ambitions, alleging that he prevented her from working or pursuing acting and isolated her from her support system.
“He blocked all my female friends because he knows I would confide in them… he made sure I kept my family away,” she alleged.
She also claimed Carter threatened her ahead of his social media posts.
“He called me this morning and told me he was about to post something calling me a prostitute and that he would make sure I don’t ever post myself again,” she said, adding that he claimed ownership of her social media platform.
