Popular Nigerian comedienne and skit maker Apaokagi Maryam, widely known as Taaooma, has drawn public attention to what she described as illegal waste disposal on a road median in Lagos State.

In a video shared on her official X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday, Taaooma highlighted the presence of refuse dumped on the median along the Ikotun, Ejigbo, and Egbeda axis of the state.

She urged the Lagos State Government and relevant environmental agencies to intervene.

Expressing concern, she wrote, “What’s happening in Ikotun/Ejigbo/Egbeda axis like this?”

She went further to tag key authorities, including the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), and the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab.

“#Lawma_gov #LasepaOfficial. Kindly help look into this #tokunbo_wahab,” she added.

The video showed heaps of refuse dumped along the road median while residents were seen carrying on with their daily activities nearby.

Taaooma’s post sparked reactions from social media users, many of whom claimed the situation was not limited to the areas she mentioned but had spread across several parts of Lagos.

Reacting, a user identified as #AWholeSalmanPR wrote, “It’s every where in Lagos Mainland that’s experiencing this. Shomolu, Mushin, Ketu, Ikotun, Oshodi, Surulere, Yaba. Everywhere full of dirty.”

Another user, #urmeedude96, added, “You didn’t remember to add Mushin to it too. I really don’t know what is going wrong with LAWMA. It’s going to 3 weeks now since they last came to my street as usual.”

Sharing a broader concern, #NejeebBello commented, “Coming from Detty December to Dirty January, 2025 is the nastiest I’ve seen Lagos since the early 2000s, when Bola Tinubu was Governor.”

“One of my neighbours moved out of the estate till further notice due to mountains of garbage, horrid smell, and possibility of an epidemic.”

Another user, #efeoghene4god, criticised private sector participation operators, saying, “The PSP operators are no longer effective. It took them two months to evacuate refuse from my house. Only after I threatened to report the issue to #tokunbo_wahab yesterday did they send a truck this morning. This is completely unacceptable.”

As of the time of this report, there has been no official response from the Lagos waste management authorities.
