The Federal Government has applauded Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele following the historic box office success of her movie, Behind the Scenes.
In a statement shared on its official X page on Monday, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) described the feat as a significant milestone for Nigeria’s creative sector and evidence of the increasing global embrace of Nigerian storytelling.
According to the agency, Behind the Scenes has now grossed over ₦2.1 billion in Nigeria, setting a new record as the first Nollywood film to cross the ₦2 billion benchmark.

“Behind the Scenes has officially crossed ₦2.1 billion at the Nigerian box office, making history as the first Nollywood film ever to hit the ₦2 billion mark,” the statement read.
The NOA also highlighted the film’s international performance, noting that its success extended beyond Nigeria’s borders.
“The flex did not stop at home; the movie also showed modest global muscle, raking in over $111,256 in Canada and an impressive $190,249 across North America.
“From Lagos to Toronto, from cinemas in Abuja to theatres overseas — this movie had everyone locked in,” the agency added.
Beyond the film’s earnings, the NOA pointed out that Akindele has now become the first filmmaker to top the African box office for three consecutive years, further underlining her impact on the industry.
The agency described the achievement as a proud moment for Nigeria, saying it reflects Nollywood’s growing influence and strengthens the country’s cultural presence on the global stage.
The government’s commendation follows widespread praise for the 2025 release, which has dominated the local market while also boosting Nollywood’s international profile.
It will be recalled that on January 12, reports confirmed that Akindele made history in African cinema after Behind the Scenes crossed the ₦2 billion mark, becoming the highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time.
