Javier Bardem has shared multiple posts in support of a petition seeking to remove Pink as a UNICEF ambassador, escalating a celebrity feud that began with Macklemore’s pro-Palestinian comments on Ed Sheeran’s tour.

The No Country for Old Men star re-shared several posts to his Instagram Stories on Monday, encouraging people to sign a Change.org petition to get Pink dismissed as an ambassador.

The Petition

The petition currently has more than 162,000 signatures. It directly addresses Pink’s stance, noting: “Pink’s recent comments are not just unfortunate but also incompatible with the role of a UNICEF Ambassador, an individual expected to promote peace, understanding, and humanitarian values above personal biases.”

“UNICEF’s mission is to uphold the rights and dignity of all children, regardless of political affiliations or geographic boundaries. We rely on ambassadors to be torchbearers of these principles, fostering inclusive dialogue and meaningful support.”

The petition proposes UNICEF take “decisive action and remove Pink as an ambassador.”

The Backlash

Pink received significant backlash after calling out Macklemore’s “Free Palestine” message on Ed Sheeran’s Loop tour. She shared a post from the @Stop_AntiSemitism page, which stated:

“Awful, Jewish fans bought tickets to see Ed Sheeran sing last night in NJ, not to be ambushed by Macklemore’s anti-Israel propaganda. Instead, Macklemore walked onstage in a keffiyeh, shouted ‘Free Palestine’, accused Israel of a false ‘genocide’, and turned a mainstream event into a political nightmare against the Jewish state.”

As people began criticising the singer, she shared memes with comments including, “Being liked by everyone is a clown’s job.”

The Bottom Line

Javier Bardem has thrown his support behind a petition to remove Pink as a UNICEF ambassador over her criticism of Macklemore’s pro-Palestinian comments. The petition has gathered more than 162,000 signatures. Pink has not publicly responded to the petition or Bardem’s support for it. The controversy stems from Macklemore’s “Free Palestine” statement during Ed Sheeran’s New Jersey concert.

My Opinion

Pink is entitled to her opinion. She is also entitled to face the consequences of expressing it. That is how free speech works. But there is a difference between criticism and a campaign to have someone fired from a humanitarian role. The petition against Pink is not about her views on Israel or Palestine. It is about whether someone who has taken a public stance on a polarizing issue can still serve as a neutral ambassador for an organization whose mission is to help all children, regardless of politics or geography. That is a fair question. It is also one UNICEF should answer, not a Change.org petition with 162,000 signatures.

Bardem sharing the petition is his right. But it also reveals something uncomfortable about celebrity activism: the same energy used to defend free expression can be used to punish it. Pink said something Bardem and others did not like. Now they want her removed. That is their right. It is also a reminder that in the current climate, nobody gets to be neutral for long. You either pick a side or one gets picked for you.
