Manchester City kept their title hopes alive in the Premier League with a thrilling 2-1 win over the reigning champions Liverpool at Anfield, halting the hosts’ eight-game unbeaten streak at home and increasing the pressure on Arsenal, the current league leaders.

During the first half, City had the better of the play and were the team who created the most promising chances as Haaland was saved by Alisson and Marmoush shot wide when he was one-on-one. Liverpool barely managed to get back into the game, but Salah was the closest when his deflected shot almost hit the target while Bernardo Silva’s penalty appeals were rejected.

The first goal of the match came around the 74th minute when Dominik Szoboszlai scored a brilliant long-range free-kick to put Liverpool in front. On the flip side, Silva brought the score level six minutes after the goal, slotting in a close-range finish after a lovely pass from Haaland.

In the dying moments, a misjudged move from Alisson saw him foul Matheus Nunes in the box, thus conceding a spot kick. The Norseman was flawless from the penalty mark and clinched the comeback triumph for Guardiola’s men.

Szoboszlai was shown the red card later on for obstruction, but the verdict had already been given. With this win, Manchester City has only managed to win at Anfield three times in decades, and it guarantees that the title race will be fiercely fought going into the final phase of the season.
