Workers of the National Assembly, under the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), have begun an indefinite strike over the non-payment of a backlog of salaries and allowances by the management.

The strike notice was issued on Sunday by a statement signed by its Secretary-General, Hammed Awobifa. In the statement, the association said they had to start the strike because they requested the total implementation of the revised conditions of service which was signed by the NASC and NASS management and PASAN on the 13th of April, 2021, had not been met.

The Memorandum of Understanding signed by these parties in April 2021 had included payment of twenty-four months’ arrears of minimum wage which the management had paid sixteen months out of twenty-four months and the full implementation of the conditions of service which had started but stopped.

The association had earlier given the management a warning in March, demanding that their request be met by May, if not they’d embark on an indefinite strike. However, the association’s demands have unfortunately not been answered, hence they have started this indefinite strike from midnight on Sunday, 5th of June, 2022
