Anthony Placid Takes Over As Police PRO – Meet The Veteran Officer

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has named Deputy Commissioner of Police Anthony Okon Placid as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) of the Nigeria Police Force.

Placid succeeds Benjamin Hundeyin, who previously held the position. Details surrounding Hundeyin’s redeployment have not been disclosed.

Born on December 2, 1970, Placid hails from Mbiokporo Nsit, Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Geography and Regional Planning from the University of Uyo and a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from the University of Jos.

Anthony Placid Takes Over As Police PRO – Meet The Veteran Officer

He joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1996 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and was commissioned in 1998. Over the years, Placid has gained extensive experience in administration, operations, intelligence, training, and international peacekeeping.

His career highlights include serving as Police Public Relations Officer in Adamawa State, Chief of Training with the African Union Mission in Sudan, and Head of Training and Development for the United Nations Mission in Darfur.

He has also held key domestic roles, including Divisional Police Officer in several locations, Officer-in-Charge of the Anti-Robbery Unit in Kaduna State, and Assistant Commissioner of Police in multiple states.

Placid is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, a Commonwealth Human Rights Trainer, and a certified International Humanitarian Law trainer with the International Committee of the Red Cross. He is also a graduate of the Senior Executive Course 47 at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies.

The IGP commended Placid’s wealth of experience and professionalism, saying his appointment will strengthen the Nigeria Police Force’s communication and public engagement efforts.

Placid is married with children and enjoys music, football, basketball, table tennis, badminton, and social interactions.
