Lionel Messi scored to help Inter Miami CF to a goal against Nashville SC in the CONCACAF Champions Cup on Wednesday and thus reached a monumental milestone in his career by netting 900 goals.
Only Cristiano Ronaldo among footballers has ever exceeded the 900-goal mark, making Messi an eight-time Ballon d’Or winner and a member of a very exclusive club. Ronaldo is at the top of the all-time goals-scoring charts, boasting a total of 965 goals scored for teams and countries.

Besides the goals he has scored for the Argentine national football team, Messi has an outstanding total from his career at three different clubs. The 38-year-old Argentine star has scored the most goals in the history of FC Barcelona, 672 goals, and is therefore regarded as the greatest player of the club. He scored 32 goals in two seasons at Paris Saint-Germain before going to Miami in 2023, where he has already scored 81 times.
For Argentina, Messi has registered 115 goals. He plays 1142 games and scores on average 0.7 goals/goals per game.
Out of his total of 900 goals, 756 have been scored by Messi with his left foot, 70 have been from direct free-kicks, and 112 have been from penalties. Messi’s consistency and longevity are what make him one of the greatest footballers of all time, with former players and coaches accepting this.
