Mikel Arteta has called the EFL Cup final game against Manchester City a “defining moment” in the Gunners season, with the Arsenal boss looking to end the trophy drought at Arsenal FC.
Both teams will play against each other at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, as Arsenal beat Chelsea to reach the final, while City eliminated Newcastle to reach the
final.
The Gunners last won the EFL Cup back in 1993, as they will be looking to win their third trophy. However, at the same time, they have a bad record of losing six finals, including losing to City in 2018.
Today’s face off is not only a final but the first ever that both teams that are at the top level of the country get to compete, with Arsenal topping the Premier League and City coming second.
Arteta’s group still has the chance for various trophies, including the UEFA Champions League and FA Cup, making it a dream scenario for the 2025-26 season.
“That’s why it’s one of the defining moments because if we are talking about trophies, then it’s the time to deliver, ” Arteta said, calling his players to arrive on the big stage.
The Spaniard, who bagged the trophy of the FA Cup as a player in 2020, summons his team to rise and be the deciding factor in important moments against a City team full of quality.
