ASUU STRIKE: President Declines Move to Crowdfund
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Whatsapp

The president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, has just rejected a large amount of money, raised for the benefit of calling off the prolonged ASUU strike that began on February 14, this year. The crowdfunding was initiated by Berekete Family Radio Station after the academic union announced that it would keep striking till August.

The radio station based in Abuja invited the ASUU leader over yesterday, June 11 for a talk. However, drama reared its head when the host of the radio program, Ahmad Isah proceeded to pour large bundles of Naira notes on the studio floor. He claimed that an anonymous governor sent in about 50 million naira to ASUU’s cause. On seeing the large sum of money, the ASUU president promptly rejected the money, saying that such money did not belong with ASUU and commented that he came to the radio station to give reasons on why the academic union was still on strike.

On seeing this, Ahmed Isah, Berekete Family radio host immediately announced that all donations toward the Striking Union’s cause would be henceforth suspended. A lot of Nigerians listening to the show were unimpressed with the ASUU president, with some calling into the show to air their grievances. All efforts to halt the ASUU strike and get students back into lecture halls have been met without success.
